Meet Rachel Stamford

Hello, Seminar Group 3! My name is Rachel and I’m one of the seminar leaders for Theories of Media and Communication. When I’m not in the classroom, I’m working as a doctoral researcher at CAMRI, University of Westminster. My research interests include accessibility in journalism and the relationship between media and democracy.

I have worked as a journalist in both the United States and United Kingdom with bylines featured in newspapers, magazines, and radio broadcasts. My main beats include social justice, demographics, government, and travel. Journalism has taken me on some crazy adventures. Whether I was covering a protest, interviewing a politician, or shooting B-roll at a theme park during the pandemic, there was always something new to learn and report about the world.

I was raised in Orlando, Florida (yes, next to Disney World) and moved to London last year. While I’m new to this city, it’s not my first time living in the United Kingdom. I did a study abroad at Bournemouth University, and earned my Master’s at the University of Glasgow.

Outside of academia, I love creative writing and downloading books to my Kindle that I’ll never read.
