a little about me

Hi! My name is Veronika! I am originally from Kyiv, Ukraine. I was born there and grew up there till I came to the United States to study at Wheaton College in Illinois. It’s not far from Chicago! I am in my third year, studying Communications in Media Studies with a minor in Studio Art. I am passionate about graphic design and photography, and I love the world of art and creativity.

My home will forever be Ukraine and I have been able to visit several times since having to leave. I miss it often and am always thankful for any chance I get to visit my grandma or familiar places and cities. It is a big part of my background and is where a lot of my passions and interests started, were nurtured, and formed, like my passion for photography.

Currently, my home is where my family is, which thankfully is still in Europe. My family now lives in Budapest, Hungary and it for sure has been an adjustment living far from my family and for them to get adjusted to a new country. And I have fallen in love with the architecture there.

For this term, I am *studying abroad* in this great city of London. When I was younger I dreamed of visiting the UK and London for a long time. My first opportunity was in April of 2022, which for me was a difficult and bittersweet moment, as at the time it was difficult to enjoy good things amidst hard circumstances. But I enjoyed my time nonetheless.

In a way, coming back to study here for a term is a different kind of “dream come true”. It’s also a way of fully immersing myself in the culture and learning so much more about what communication and art is like here. I’ve found I most definitely am a lover of big cities, as I’ve lived most of my time in cities like Kyiv, Budapest, near Chicago, and now London.

I also love learning. I have found there is so much to be curious about and so much to understand. I love being active through various sports – my favorites being: football, basketball, the gym, biking, and most recently rock climbing, running, and hiking! My creative outlets are mostly through photography and some graphic design, but also sketching, water coloring, and reading classic books (if I have time outside of academic reading).

I love going to museums and art galleries, watching movies, trying local coffee shops, cooking, and of course taking pictures of architecture, nature, my friends, and the many cultures I get to experience around me.

I’m looking forward to reading your blogs this term!
