I’m Thalia, and I am a journalism major studying abroad at Westminster this semester! I go to American University in Washington, DC, but I’m originally from Brooklyn, NY. Being from a major city, I’ve always been interested in living in London and learning the similarities/differences compared to where I grew up. So far, London feels very familiar but I love that there’s so much to see and explore as opposed to a place I’ve known forever. As someone who loves to travel, I also appreciate how easy it is to get to other cities from here! I have weekend trips to Paris, Porto, Barcelona and Dublin planned for this semester which is really exciting.
Besides school and exploring, I love to try anything creative. Painting, pottery, scrapbooking, photography, etc! I did ballet for about 15 years, so I’m also always looking out for a dance class or performance to see. I used to do the Nutcracker every winter and I’m hoping to catch a production here before I head home. A fun fact about me is I’ve spotted a couple celebrities at my shows- Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were all very random but nice!
As a journalism major, I’ve taken a lot of communications classes at my home university but none on media theory! I’ve already learned a lot of new concepts and ideas from this course and I’m looking forward to seeing how the semester progresses. Considering the media landscape internationally, but especially in the US right now, I feel like everything I learn in this class will be so valuable to bring back home with me. Excited to get to know you all!
